Emily and I Bake Cookie Bars!

Hey, y'all! I know what y'all have been thinkin'... Ginger must have died. Nope! I'm still going strong over here. The past week or so, I've just been super busy with Christmas-y things, hence the lack of posts. But I have one for you today! Emily joined me for some fun in the kitchen!

"So, what are we making, Ginger?" Emily asked me.
"We're making cake mix cookie bars!" I replied. "I've never made them before, but I'm hoping that they turn out well, since I'm taking them to the Christmas party at Bible study tonight."
Emily smiled. "I'm sure they'll turn out fine! Let's get baking!"

"I have enough ingredients to make two batches of these bars," I explained to Emily. "I need to make sure that I have enough for everyone."
"Of course!" Emily agreed. "What's first?"

"Cake mix, pudding, and water!" I told her.
As soon as the water splashed into the bowl, Emily shrieked a little.
"The mix turned yellow!" Emily exclaimed. "I wasn't expecting that! There aren't any eggs or butter in the bowl yet!"
I laughed. "Yeah, well, I guess since it's yellow cake mix, it turns yellow when water hits it!"

Then we added the veggie oil and eggs.
"It kind of looks like mold," Emily wrinkled her nose.
"Yeah..." I said. "But it should be fine once we mix. Besides, doesn't the cake mix smell amazing?"
Emily breathed in deep. "Yeah, it does smell good!"

After I had added in the chocolate chips, Emily insisted on pouring the Christmas colored M&M's into the batter. "This is what makes this dish suitable for a Christmas party!" she exclaimed.

She poured them in, but rather quickly! She ended up dumping about half of the bag of M&M's into the bowl. But then again, when is more chocolate ever a bad thing?

Then, Emily and I mixed the batter together.
"I think this is going to taste so yummy!" Emily smiled.
"I think so too!" I agreed.

We then proceeded to pour the batter into the greased baking dish. Emily couldn't do it, since the bowl was about as big as she is, so she allowed me to do it.

"Oven time!" Emily squealed. "I can't wait to try this when it comes out!"

We popped the cookie bars into the oven. Emily helped me close the oven up.

After twenty minutes, I took the hot dishes out of the oven to cool.
"Look at these!" Emily said. "They look great!"
"Totally!" I grinned. "They smell great too."
Later I tried the bars. They tasted wonderful! The people at Bible Study loved them too.
Mission accomplished!

XOXO Ginger Spice

P.S. Have you done any Christmas (or holiday) baking yet?

  1. When it comes to cookies, I think the more chocolate the better. LOL! I'm sure Emily's cookies tasted good. At Christmas time, we try to make a batch of cookies a day, since we have so many different kinds to make. Yesterday we made two different kinds, actually. :)

    2. They are just tradition, I suppose. They are only made once a year... For Christmas! :P We make cookies that aren't exactly the healthiest, so we wouldn't make them, except it is a Christmas tradition! :) They taste good too. :)

    1. Hmm... I don't think I ever fell into a vat of toxic waste and developed superpowers as a child, but it's possible! (lol!) Thank you so much!
